Fantasia Extends Run in The Color Purple

Fantasia Barrino will extend her critically acclaimed performance as Celie in The Color Purple through January 6, 2008, at the Broadway Theatre. Fantasia made her Broadway debut on April 10 in what had been scheduled to be a six-month limited engagement.

Fantasia won a 2007 Theater World Award and Broadway.com Audience Award for her theatrical debut in the hit musical. Since the arrival of the American Idol winner, The Color Purple has experienced a sharp jump in box-office receipts. It opened on Broadway on December 1, 2005.
