Annabella Sciorra Will Star Off-Broadway in Spain

Annabella Sciorra will star in MCC Theater's forthcoming production of Jim Knable's Spain. Joining Sciorra in the romantic comedy will be Michael Aronov, Veanne Cox, Erik Jensen and Lisa Kron. Previews begin on October 10 at the Lucille Lortel Theatre, with opening night set for October 30. The off-Broadway run of Spain is scheduled through November 17, directed by Jeremy Dobrish.

Reeling from an acrimonious divorce, Barbara Sciorra finds solace in her overactive imagination. After conjuring her dream lover—a sexy Conquistador Aronov decked out in a full suit of armor!—she embarks with him on a fantastical journey which prompts her to give in to her darkest desires. Knable's modern-day fairy tale mixes romance and whimsy in its exploration of one woman's quest for self-acceptance, contentment and the willingness to love again.

Sciorra received an Emmy nomination for her performance as Gloria Trillo on HBO's The Sopranos. Her stage credits include appearances at the Nuyorican Poets Café, Roar at The New Group and Those The River Keeps and Under the Blue Sky at Williamstown Theatre Festival. Her many films include Find Me Guilty, Twelve & Holding, Jungle Fever, The Hand That Rocks The Cradle, Mr. Wonderful, Romeo is Bleeding, The Addiction and The Funeral.

Aronov won the Elliot Norton Award for Best Actor in Boston for originating the role of Dennis in Theresa Rebeck's Mauritius and appeared in Salome in Los Angeles with Al Pacino. New York theater credits include Manigma, Spain The Kirk Theatre, SPF '06, Miss Julie, Playing with Fire, That Tuesday, The Late Henry Moss, The Bacchae 2.1, King Lear, The Phoenician Women and A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Cox, a Tony nominee for Company, most recently starred in Private Lives at the Guthrie Theatre and in The Beaux Stratagem at the Shakespeare Theatre in Washington D.C. She has appeared in MCC productions of Last Easter and The Wooden Breeks. Broadway credits include Caroline or Change, The Dinner Party and mile. Off-Broadway credits include The Altruists, The Batting Cage, The Waiting Room, Flora the Red Menace, House and Garden, Labor Day, Freedomland, A Question of Mercy, The Vagina Monologues, The Food Chain and A Mother, A Daughter, and a Gun.

Jensen recently portrayed Yankee catcher Thurman Munson in the acclaimed mini-series The Bronx is Burning. Stage appearances include Y2K, Corpus Christi and Waning Poetic. With his wife, Jessica Blank, he is author of the play The Exonerated, which won the 2003 Lucille Lortel Award, the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Off-Broadway Play and a Drama Desk Award.

Kron received a Tony nomination for her performance in her autobiographical play Well. She is also the author of 2.5 Minute Ride and is a founding member of the OBIE and Bessie Award winning theater company The Five Lesbian Brothers. As an actress she has appeared 0ff-Broadway in The Normal Heart, The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told, Spalding Gray: Stories Left to Tell and The Vagina Monologues.
