The Adding Machine: A Chamber Musical, which premiered in February at Next Theater in Evanston, Illinois, is headed for a run at the Minetta Lane Theater, according to Variety. Directed by David Cromer Orson's Shadow, the musical will debut off-Broadway in February 2008.
Adapted from Elmer Rice's 1923 play, the operatic musical follows an everyman anti-hero named Mr. Zero, who finds his job replaced by an adding machine and then kills his boss. The show features a score by Joshua Schmidt and a book by Next artistic director Jason Loewith. Original cast members Joel Hatch, Amy Warren and Cyrilla Baer are expected to star in the off-Broadway production.
Scott Morfee of Barrow Street Theater will produce, and Takeshi Kata The Intelligent Design of Jenny Chow has signed on as set designer.
