No Country for Old Men took home four Academy Awards on February 24, including three Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay for brothers Joel and Ethan Coen. Ethan, whose acceptance speeches were notably short "thank you", has recently turned his attention to the theater. His collection of three one-act plays, Almost An Evening, will transfer to the Bleecker Street Theatre on March 20 after a sold-out run at Atlantic Theatre's Stage 2. Another moment of interest to theater fans during the Oscar telecast was the shout-out No Country for Old Men's lead producer, Scott Rudin, gave to Broadway publicist John Barlow his longtime partner during his Best Picture acceptance speech.
Tim Burton's film adaptation of Sweeney Todd won one Oscar, for its art direction. The three nominated songs from Enchanted, written by Broadway vets Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz, lost out to "Falling Slowly" from Once. Tony winner Kristin Chenoweth sang "That's How You Know" from Enchanted during the telecast.
