John Lavelle will stars as Yossarian in the world premiere of Aquila Theatre’s stage adaptation of Joseph Heller’s Catch 22. Adapted and directed by Peter Meineck, performances begin November 14 at the Lucille Lortel Theatre for a limited-engagement run opening November 23 and closing December 20.
Catch-22 tells the story of a bombardier who starts to question the futile and ridiculous administration of his air base while station on small island off the coast of Italy in 1944. First published as a novel in 1961, Joseph Heller's powerful and hilarious work has become a modern American classic, with the title itself entering the English language as a description of a ridiculously cyclical situation. Heller soon adapted the novel into a play, but it never received a professional production until now.
John Lavelle starred on Broadway in The Graduate. His off-Broadway credits include The Merchant of Venice and The Jew of Malta TFANA, Burleigh Grimes New World Stages, Rope Drama Department, and Spatter Pattern Playwrights. Regional credits include On the Razzle Williamstown, Bell Book and Candle Old Globe, Much Ado About Nothing La Jolla and The Merchant of Venice Royal Shakespeare Company. On film and TV, he’s appeared in The Taking of Pelham 123, National Lampoon's Dirty Movie, Can Openers, Porcelain and Diamonds, Frozen Impact, The Sandpiper, August, The Black Donnellys, Law and Order, Guiding Light, All My Children, and Sixteen to Life.
