Complete casting has been announced for David Cromer’s acclaimed staging of Thornton Wilder’s Our Town. As was previously announced, Cromer will direct and star as the Stage Manager in the play, which he first mounted last spring in Chicago. Previews begin February 17 at the Barrow Street Theatre, with opening night set for February 26.
Coinciding with the 70th anniversary of Our Town’s Broadway premiere, the new production of Wilder’s play, which won the Pulitzer Prize in 1938, will involve a complete redesign of the Barrow Street Theatre’s space, with the residents of the fictional town of Grover’s Corners presenting their story in, among and around the audience.
The cast of Our Town includes in alphabetical order Jeremy Beiler as Sam Craig, Rob Beitzel as Howie Newsome, Kati Brazda as Mrs. Webb, George Demas as Constable Warren, Donna Jay Fulks as Mrs. Soames, Jennifer Grace as Emily, Wilbur Edwin Henry as Professor Willard, Adam Hinkle as Joe Crowell, James McMenamin as George, Jeff Still as Doc Gibbs, Ken Marks as Editor Webb, Jonathan Mastro as Simon Stimson, Seamus Mulcahy as Wally Webb, Lori Myers as Mrs. Gibbs, Jay Russell as Joe Stoddard, Jason Yachanin as Si Crowell and David Cromer as the Stage Manager.
Cromer directed last season’s hit off-Broadway musical Adding Machine, which received OBIE Awards, Lucille Lortel and Outer Critics Circle for Best Musical, as well as OBIE and Lucille Lortel honors for Best Direction. In Chicago, Cromer most recently staged productions of William Inge’s Picnic at Writers’ Theatre, and the premiere of Celebrity Row by Itamar Moses at American Theater Company. He’ll make his Broadway directing debut next season with Neil Simon’s Brighton Beach Memoirs and Broadway Bound.
The creative team for Our Town will feature Michele Spadaro set design and props, Alison Siple costume design and Heather Gilbert lighting design. The Production Stage Manager is Richard A. Hodge.
This production marks the debut collaboration between Jean Doumanian Productions and Barrow Street Theatre, who recently announced a creative partnership to bring innovative works and artists to Off Broadway. The two companies are currently collaborating on Barrow Street Fortnight2, a three-week celebration of new improv, sketch comedy, music and solo shows, currently running at the downtown venue.
