Mark Ruffalo, Josh Hamilton and Missy Yager, the stars of the acclaimed original off-Broadway production of playwright Kenneth Lonergan’s This Is Our Youth, will reprise their roles for L.A. Theatre Works’ production of the play. The show will play five performances at Los Angeles’ Skirball Cultural Center March 18 through 22.
The coming-of-age dramedy Youth, about three drugging, unfocused teens on New York’s Upper West Side rebelling against the ideals of their affluent parents while falling prey to their own excessive lifestyle in the early 1980s, originally opened at the INTAR Theatre on October 26, 1996. The show, directed by Mark Brokaw, played 22 performances, drawing rave reviews and garnering attention for its young cast and playwright.
The production was revived off-Broadway just two years later by the Second Stage Theatre company on November 3, 1998, this time featuring Mark Rosenthal in place of Josh Hamilton, playing 240 performances before closing on May 2, 1999.
The West Coast production of This is Our Youth will be recorded for subsequent broadcast on L.A.T.W’s nationally syndicated radio series The Play’s the Thing.
