Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS has announced the dates for its 23rd Annual Easter Bonnet Competition. The fundraiser—which features performances and presentations from the companies of over 20 Broadway, off-Broadway and touring productions—will take place at the Minskoff Theatre on April 27 at 4:30pm and April 28 at 2pm. Proceeds from the event will benefit BC/EFA.
An annual Broadway tradition, the Easter Bonnet Competition is the culmination of six intensive weeks of fundraising efforts by participating productions on and off-Broadway, as well as on tour. Curtain speeches, autographed poster and program sales, auctions and cabaret performances bring in hundreds of thousands of dollars from theatergoers prior to the competition. The winner of the competition will be the company that raises the largest amount of money for BC/EFA. Another award is granted to the company with the best bonnet design and presentation. Honors are also given to the Broadway play, national tour and off-Broadway production raising the most money for BC/EFA.
Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS is the nation’s leading industry-based, nonprofit AIDS fundraising and grant-making organization. By drawing upon the talents, resources and generosity of the American theatre community, BC/EFA raises funds for AIDS-related causes and other critical illnesses across the United States. Since its founding in 1988, BC/EFA has raised over $150 million dollars for critically needed services for people with AIDS and other serious illnesses.
