Due to a scheduling conflict with director Scott Ellis, the premiere of Tony Award nominee Douglas Carter Bean’s new comedy, Mr. & Mrs. Fitch, has been postponed from Second Stage Theatre’s current season, the company announced. The show had been scheduled to begin previews June 16.
Ellis, who staged Beane’s Tony-nominated play The Little Dog Laughed both at Second Stage and on Broadway, was recently named supervising producer/director of the hit Showtime series Weeds, and is therefore no longer available to helm the world premiere of Mr. & Mrs. Fitch. The director remains attached to the project, which will be produced by the company at a later date.
A new summer mainstage production to fill the vacant spot in Second Stage’s season will be announced shortly. The group’s current show, the acclaimed Becky Shaw, concludes its extended run March 15. Everyday Rapture, directed by Michael Mayer and starring Sherie Rene Scott, begins previews at Second Stage on April 7.
