The Burnt Part Boys, a mainstage musical production running July 17-26
Featuring a book by Mariana Elder, lyrics by Nathan Tysen and music by Chris Miller, this new musical follows a group of teenagers in rural West Virginia in 1962 whose fathers were killed 10 years earlier in a tragic coal mining accident. When they learn that the mine will be reopened, they set out secretly in the hope of seeing the site and keeping it closed. This is a collaboration between New York Stage and Film, Playwrights Horizons and the Vineyard Theatre and will be produced off-Broadway next season.
Vera Laughed by Keith Bunin, a mainstage production running July 22-August 2
April 1942. Twenty years after escaping from Russia, the Nobel Prize-winning Russian writer Ivan Bunin has created a new life for himself in the French countryside with his wife and his mistress. He still dreams of returning home, but he’s not a young man anymore, and the world is at war again.
Concert readings will include Tina Girlstar July 1-2, a biting black comedy about an aging record producer, with a book by Anton Dudley, lyrics by Charlie Sohne and music by Brian Feinstein; and Whisper House July 10-11, a ghostly story set during World War II, with music and lyrics by Duncan Sheik and book and lyrics by Kyle Jarrow.
“Inside Look” series presentations will include One Slight Hitch July 17-19, a comedy about a wedding gone wrong, by Lewis Black; and Shoe Story July 23-25, an urban fairy tale about love and lose, by Ben Snyder.
Readings will include works by Bryan Delaney The Onion Game, Yussef El Guindi Language Rooms, Theresa Rebeck a new untitled play, Julian Sheppard Zero, Andrew Dolan That Good Night, Beth Henley The Jacksonian, Dan Moran Soul Cakes, John Patrick Shanley Pirate and Regina Taylor Rain.
