Scott Parkinson will temporarily assume the role of Stage Manager in the current off-Broadway production of Thornton Wilder’s Our Town. He replaces David Cromer, who also staged and directed the acclaimed production. Parkinson’s first performance at the Barrow Street Theatre is scheduled for May 1. Cromer will return to the show in mid-June, after a five-week hiatus to honor a prior commitment.
On Broadway, Scott Parkinson has appeared in The Coast of Utopia. His off-Broadway credits include Orson’s Shadow; Rose Rage; The Third Story MCC, and Crime & Punishment 59E59. Regionally, he’s performed in productions at Shakespeare Theatre, the Old Globe, La Jolla Playhouse and the Mark Taper Forum.
In addition to Cromer, the current cast of Our Town features Jeremy Beiler as Sam Craig, Rob Beitzel as Howie Newsome, Kati Brazda as Mrs. Webb, George Demas as Constable Warren, Donna Jay Fulks as Mrs. Soames, Jennifer Grace as Emily, Wilbur Edwin Henry as Professor Willard, Adam Hinkle as Joe Crowell, Ronete Levenson as Rebecca Gibbs, James McMenamin as George, Ken Marks as Editor Webb, Jonathan Mastro as Simon Stimson, Seamus Mulcahy as Wally Webb, Lori Myers as Mrs. Gibbs, Jay Russell as Joe Stoddard, Jeff Still as Doc Gibbs and Jason Yachanin as Si Crowell.
Cromer first staged Our Town for Chicago’s Hypocrites Theatre in April 2008, in a basement space at the Chopin Theatre. In honor of the 70th anniversary of Wilder’s classic, the action took place in, among and around the audience. The Barrow Street Theatre was completely redesigned for the production, which opened in New York to rave reviews on February 26.
Cromer, who also directed last season’s hit Off-Broadway musical, Adding Machine, will make his Broadway directing debut in the fall with Neil Simon’s Brighton Beach Memoirs and Broadway Bound.
