Broadway Grosses: Family Shows Jump During Holiday Weekend

In a Memorial Day holiday weekend that saw overall Broadway box office totals remain steady, the best news was among shows that did not make the frontrunners lists: family-oriented musicals. In a preview of what producers hope will be a strong summer, shows such as Mary Poppins, Shrek the Musical and The Little Mermaid all experienced six-figure jumps from the previous week. Meanwhile, Broadway said good-bye to one new play and one revival, 33 Variations and Desire Under the Elms.
