Tony Award winner John Lithgow, who starred in the fall revival of Arthur Miller’s All My Sons, will be tapping into his killer instincts for the upcoming season of Showtime slasher series Dexter. The actor will go head to head with Broadway veteran and title star Michael C. Hall on season four of the show, playing a serial killer who catches the eye of Dexter, a forensics specialist and fellow homicidal maniac who only kills other murderers.
According to press notes, Lithgow will play Walter Simmons, an unassuming suburbanite who lives a double life as a cross-country killer dubbed “The Trinity Killer” for his habit of killing in threes. Season four will also welcome back another theater alum, Keith Carradine, reprising his role as Special Agent Frank Lundy.
Dexter has been a frequent landing spot for stage actors since its 2006 debut. In addition to Hall, Carradine and Lithgow, the series has featured David Zayas Anna in the Tropics, The Little Flower of East Orange, JoBeth Williams The Vagina Monologues, Erik King Wig Out!, David Ramsey Equus and Jennifer Carpenter The Crucible, among others.
