"I know the show has been running a REALLY long time (since 1975), and I had seen it previously in 2008. But seeing it again in 2025 and this time with family and friends in their early 30s, (I’m in late 50s), and I have to say I found it a little dated. The performers were amazing and very talented, I just found the show a little dull many times and some of the songs and dances showed their age. I would choose a more current show next time if we go back to NYC. "

Good Show
"Good show overall with the singing, dancing, and performing. I just wish there were more stage changes (kind of bland). I feel in that aspect felt a little flat for me. "

3.5 🌟
"Chicago is one of my all time favourite musicals. I love the music and choreography. This production was very good but not as grand or impressive as in London on the West End or frankly as the movie. "

Good show but …
"Loved the Cell Block Tango, the humour sprinkled throughout, the Mary Sunshine character as well as the three main characters! Major detractor was the length … many songs and concepts dragged on and on … we get it! The pace would have been much better if the show ended 45 minutes earlier. It would have been a cleaner, clearer paced show. "

Good venue, good seats
"I enjoyed the "coziness" of the venue; it's not so large you feel lost and the seats offer good viewing. The performance, while good, didn't grab me like other plays/musicals I've attended. I don't have any complaints about the performance or performers, just a personal opinion based on my experiences. There is better ticket pricing mid week."

Very good but underwhelming
"Chicago was very good, but a bit underwhelming compared to the heart-filling passion of Hamilton, Les Miserables or Hadestown. Some of the performers looked a bit bored. It was still an honor to see a Broadway classic. "

Not Worth the Price
"The cast was wonderful. They performed everything beautifully. However, the production was underwhelming. There were no sets and only basic costumes. I expect more from a Broadway show. I expect sets and the cast to have more than one costume. The production level was subpar for a Broadway production."

My expectations were higher
"Orchestra’s/conductor’s relationship / participation with the cast members was unique and smart. Singing was pretty good, some people stood out, like R. Lowe, as Mary Sunshine, with an operatic voice that stunned the audience. Raymond Bokhour, as Amos Hart, performed a raw and humbling solo, “Mister Cellophane,”. Expected there to be a bigger cast with longer chorus lines. With occasional performances happening on either end of the stage, my eyes didn’t know where to look. Overall, this musical did the opposite of exceeding my expectations."

Predictable
"I was a bit disappointed there was no scenery change, story line was hard to follow (if you hadn’t seen the movie), theater was a bit rundown, seats impossibly tight actually uncomfortable, and the costumes appeared cheep. We decided to leave after the first act. Seeing Erica was the only highlight of the evening. "

Ok but needs a revamp
"Love the film, but thought the stage performance lacked speed and snappy excitement/ suspense. Some of the crew clearly had a lot of dance talent and tricks and the choreography could make use of this.
Songs also seemed slow on tempo.
We felt the relationship between Roxie and Velma could have been stronger and sharper on stage, and again the choreography should be sharpened.
It was ok, but the time in which is set could be utilised in style so much more. Costume for Mamma, particularly."

Outstanding talent, but underwhelmed with theater and theater policies
"The show was top notch with fabulous casting/production. Disappointed that the stage was so small, and honestly think the cast was restricted by it. Ushers were warm and welcoming but totally frustrated with the number of people allowed to be seated well into the production. Sorry but if someone is late then they should wait until the intermission. On six separate occasions we were expected to move to the aisle for others, and those behind us were not having it glaring at us when we were the ones being inconvenienced. Fix this policy please. The cast was brilliant, and so engaging. It's really the management of the venue and their policies that were problematic. This experience would likely deter us from a future performance at this theater but the overall production was phenomenal. "

Not your typical Broadway production
"I've been a musical patron for years, and honestly this was my least favorite I've ever attended. DEFINITELY not for children! If you're looking for the vibrant stage settings and color, this musical is not the one to see."

Lackluster
"The singing was great. Some of the actors have such great voices and great range. The story was interesting and characters were portrayed well. The choreography was lack luster. The cell Block Tango could've used more tango. Other choreographed dances lacked energy and was underwhelming. I also didn't like the lack costume changes and the orchestra taking most of the stage area. It made the performance feel like a cheap production."

Left feeling meh 🫤
"We’re avid Broadway goers. We’re big supporters of protecting Broadway! However this performance was lack luster. Who ever chose the stage production must of had a limited budget to work with. They do not use any set changes and the majority of the stage is taken up by the band/ orchestra(which make up about 7-10 ish people) the set and costume changes are part of what make Broadway magic so magnificent and keep you coming back for more. The costume changes did not amount to much because none of the supporting characters changed for any numbers and just Roxy had 2-3 different changes but minimal. When I say costume and set were low budget… I’m not kidding. The stars could all sing and perform but it’s Broadway and that’s an expectation. This was more suited for off Broadway but even little shop of horrors outshined this set and costume fiasco. Don’t waste your money on this if you’re a first timer or new to Broadway because this is not the typical standard Broadway brings with remakes or any other major production. If you’re a Chicago fan you’ll be depressed at the last of chair routines too. Only 2 girls could actually perform with the chair well so they didn’t do large chair numbers with choreography instead had the cast sitting on the side of the band watching the performance. Disappointed. "

It was ok.
"The actors seemed to lack energy. Of the 3 shows we saw during our trip, this one was the only one we didn’t love. It was flat and boring. It’s so hard to write that, but I don’t think it was worth the $240 we spent. We’ve seen productions of Chicago in other cities that were much better. "

Not the type of people I wanna be friends with
"The show is about Chicago and what I believe to be the 20s and it showed the worst of America. People hating their spouses people getting divorced and killing ex-lovers. More people in jail and bad attorneys. nothing was good. Nothing was pleasant. There was no romance. There was no love. There was nothing but the worst of this country. "

Great run… time to close
"I had the privilege of seeing Chicago the week it opened 25 years ago with Anne & BeBe. An amazing experience. Some of the best dancing and choreography that I have ever seen. I went to see the show this past Monday night 1-27-25 to see Erica Jane. With or without Erica the show looks tired. The same great choreography but no the same moves. The company seemed to be walking through the show. The dancing was not tight. You are seeing. Bob Fosse show. It’s about the dancing. The secondary leaders were all good. Good vocals. The show just looked tired. I doubt Anne Reinking would let the curtain rise on this production. "

Where was the set
"If I hadn’t watched the movie, I would have absolutely no clue what was going on. In fact, my husband has never seen the movie and by the intermission he was totally lost. Having a set would have helped. The woman playing Matron Mama Morton, a very young slim woman that could have been Reese Witherspoon, has a great voice but totally doesn’t fit the role. Super disappointing and we were so excited to go. "
