Not sure what I was expecting...
"I had heard rave reviews of this show, and I love Alicia Keys' music. But the story didn't flow well and the writing was very sophomoric/formulaic. It felt like the Broadway equivalent of a Madea movie. I did love the music and dancing! "

Don’t believe the hype
"I liked five of the song versions. I didn’t find the flow of the music and storyline line. I loved the voice of the bubbly friend of A. Keys she was extremely talented. I didn’t like the negative reflection of the father even if it’s true. The first half was better than the second half and it was too long. "

Great music less than adequate dancing
"We enjoyed the music , staging and singing. Dancing was average at best and too much gratuitous of vulgar language. Broadway shows should be better than this."

Lacked uniqueness
"It didn't show anything really important about her life other than what is common to other teens her age."

Hell’s Kitchen Left Me Cold
"Hell’s Kitchen was a major disappointment. The plot felt shallow, the writing weak, and the storytelling lacked wit or emotional depth. Having just seen & Juliet and The Wiz, both of which were clever, engaging, and sharply written, the contrast was glaring. The music often felt forced into the narrative rather than serving it, disrupting the flow instead of enhancing it. The lead performance was particularly underwhelming; for a character inspired by Alicia Keys, the role called for far more charisma and nuance. Instead, the character was difficult to like and, at times, outright annoying. The mother’s role was a bright spot vocally, and Yolanda Adams was, as expected, a standout. Unfortunately, those moments weren’t enough to elevate the production. Several dance sequences felt random, the set design was surprisingly basic, and even my 17-year-old clocked multiple cringe-worthy moments. Overall, Hell’s Kitchen leans too heavily on its music and name recognition while falling short on substance. I left genuinely disappointed."

Boring and the sound system is bad.
"There's no pizzazz to this show. The dance scenes are repetitive. We couldn't understand most of what was said or sang due to a poor quality sound system. Very disappointing"
