Stunning ensemble performance
"Came to Ragtime for Caissie Levy, left with such a deep appreciation and awe of everyone’s performances. This show is so timely for the moment we are in, and the human stories being told on stage are incredible. A must see. "

Great show says Aussie tourists!
"We had not heard of Ragtime until we planned a holiday to New York. We wanted to see something different on Broadway and we had seen many of the well known musicals elsewhere. It was a great decision - we were blown away by the show! It had everything - an important and relevant story, great singing, great lyrics, great cast. We were spellbound and it was quite the tearjerker! We now know more about America and New York. We are glad we came, and we probably won't be able to see this show anywhere else. Two Aussies."

It's a must see show!
"I have performed on stage, and I'm a severe critic. I haven't heard such powerful vocals since Les Mis opened in 1986. Please extend the run. Everyone should see this show!"

A once-in-a-decade event
"I’ve seen several dozen Broadway shows over the years. This is easily the best sung show I’ve ever watched, with a top-notch score. It’s a perfectly timed revival really makes you feel something about the state of America today without being preachy. A can’t miss show in the least exaggerated sense."

One of the finest shows ever on Broadway
"We have been to many plays on Broadway over many decades. Ragtime is at the very top of our list, with extraordinary music, performances and production in a play that seems to feel more current every year and that, while entertaining, had a deeply serious and emotional resonance rarely seen. This was the fifth different production of Ragtime that my wife and I have seen, and it continues its powerful grip on the audience. I do not remember a more enthusiastic audience reaction in any Broadway show, and it was well deserved. "

One of the best musicals in recent decades.
"Based on the Doctorow novel, this musical traces the American experience at the turn of the 20th century by following the lives of three New York families: one American upper-class white, one of Latvian immigrants and one of a Black (yes, ragtime) musician. The Flaherty and Ahrens score is stirring -- lush and melodious -- and the book thrilling in its telling of the ways different characters seek the American dream. Confession: I have seen this show several times, in the original production and this new version. But this revival at Lincoln Center is a must-see, powerful and beautiful."

Exhilarating and inspiring.
"The music was immediately captivating. The talent of each and every cast member was exceptional - so much so that individual numbers triggered standing ovations from the audience. I loved this show when I saw the original production years ago. The relevance of the show's themes given the inhumane policies of our current administration struck deep into my heart, at points bringing me to tears. I hope that all theatre goers will find inspiration from this exquisite reminder that we are a country of immigrants. "

Broadway Perfection
"I have seen over 50 Broadway shows since 1985. This production of Ragtime is now my favorite show of all. The voices, acting, costumes, and orchestra were superb. They took a minimalist approach for the scenery but it worked. You must put this production of Ragtime at the top of your list. "

Ragtime is the BestTime
"The entire cast is superb. I’d read Doctorow’s sprawling epic novel decades ago and couldn’t imagine the feat of turning it into a stage musical. Well, they succeeded. This was 3 hours long and the time flew by. It was entertaining from start to end. The actors were terrific and what voices, not to mention dancing. Add superb costuming and magic results. The Lincoln Centre was the perfect venue, given the live orchestra, huge cast and stellar acoustics required to carry it all off. A don’t miss event!"

As Good As The Original
"One of the most spectacular shows I've ever seen! It was breathtaking from opening number to the standing ovation during the first act (never experienced that before) to the final note. If all three of the leads aren't nominated and WIN Tony's it will be a travesty because true fans of the production know exactly what the originals sound like and they might just be better; of course that's because I've only heard them on CD. For those who aren't particular about where you sit, then I must insist on the mezzanine. While that is always our choice, we were privy to staging in the opening number, that blew my mind, I am sure people in the orchestra missed because they were eye level. And if you do sit upstairs and arrive early you are one of the lucky ones to get to use the complimentary lockers for your coats and such . . other theaters take note. Run, don't walk, to see Ragtime!"

Powerhouse performances, A Story for Today’s World
"Usually there is a star or two in a show- here there are so many packed into one you feel as though you are seeing a masterclass in musical theatre. Of course one standout is so clear- Joshua Henry- get your Tonys outfit ready. But the story? Wow- it so concisely conveys the American experience of the immigrants, the African-American community, and where those of privilege fit in amongst it all, you will be left feeling so many emotions I almost burst into tears by the end. Stunning."

About Ragtime

Ragtime is a sweeping musical adaption of E.L. Doctorow’s novel that follows three fictional families in pursuit of the American Dream at the dawn of the 20th Century: Black pianist Coalhouse Walker, Jr. and his beloved Sarah, Jewish immigrant Tateh and his little girl, and a wealthy white family led by matriarch Mother. All grasping for the same dream, if only they can hold onto it.

Featuring a lush score by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, a stirring book by Terrence McNally, and original orchestrations by William David Brohn, all of whom won Tony Awards for their work, Ragtime weaves fictional narratives with real historical figures and events, creating a rich tapestry that blurs the line between personal struggle and national identity, making history feel both intimate and epic.
