Timeless—and timely—Meditation on the American Dream
"This is a poignant show, describing American values from the point of view”the other”: racial minorities, women, and immigrants. The message sunk into the hearts of the audience. I have never seen a standing ovation DURING a Broadway show. At this performance, there were three. See this show."

Outstanding Revival
"We came to NY despite the 2026 blizzard, primarily to see another show. We made a last minute decision to get tickets for Ragtime. So glad we did! One of the best Broadway performances we've seen. Unbelievably outstanding singing performances, particularly Joshua Henry and Nichelle Lewis. A memorable evening! My leaning: Kids should be 14 or over to attend - challenging, complicated themes with hateful language - but to make a point!"

Possibly the best performance I’ve seen
"The singing was off the charts in terms of quality and strength and charged with emotion. Multiple standing ovations during the performance that were well earned. I’ve seen about 50 shows on Broadway and I’ve not seen better singing. "

This musical gave me chills, it was fantastic!
"The acting was wonderful and the singing was fabulous! The story line although incredibly beautiful and moving might not be good for small children. I don’t know if I have ever enjoyed a musical as much as Ragtime!"

A Tremendous Production That Feels Uncomfortably Relevant
"Ragtime is a powerful, beautifully staged production. The cast is outstanding across the board, delivering performances that feel both technically excellent and emotionally grounded. The theater itself is a great space - intimate enough to feel connected, but big enough to let the show breathe.
The music is tremendous, with a full, rich orchestra that adds real weight and momentum to the story (a reminder of how much a big orchestra matters). Most striking is how relevant the story feels. Its themes around race, class, immigration, and social change land squarely in the present moment. This production doesn’t just entertain; it resonates. Highly recommend."

Ragtime exceeded my high expectations.
"This show was incredibly moving. The Vivian Beaumont Theater is the perfect venue for this show- intimate enough, but plenty of room for big voices and some excellent staging. The performers all gave so much, but Joshua Henry blew me away. Almost every moment he was singing gave me goosebumps. I had heard that the book didn't match the quality of the music, but honestly, I loved it. Although there wasn't a lot of depth to some of the characters, like the scenery, there was enough there to give the audience the impression of who they were meant to be. The frisson of the music then filled in the blanks, with the performers bringing out the essence of their characters with outstanding performances. The two sub plots were beautifully tied in to the main plot in the end. Horribly, the theme of racial discrimination is actually even more apropos now. The show is a must-see. "
Absolutely perfection! Joshua Henry is the best actor/singer I’ve ever seen
"Staging was perfect - a little sparse which didn’t take away from the story and flowed effortlessly. The singing was powerful and the dancing was so good. Might be a little long for younger kids. Totally relevant for middle school and up. DO NOT MISS IT!"

Breathtakingly gorgeous and tragic and wonderful altogether.
"There was nothing to not like. There was a several minutes long standing ovation (not manipulated) in Act One. It was at least on par with the original production and at most one of the best shows I’ve ever seen live. "

One of the best shows I've seen
"I'm a regular theater-goer, and Ragtime is officially one of the best shows I've seen. The pure talent of the cast, the ingenuity of the directors and designers, the obvious time and thought that went into every detail.... it was all incredible. Ragtime happens to be a favorite show of mine, but this Broadway revival was beyond expectations and deserves all the flowers. Upon leaving the theater, I immediately bought tickets to go again with friends. "

About
Ragtime
Ragtime is a sweeping musical adaption of E.L. Doctorow’s novel that follows three fictional families in pursuit of the American Dream at the dawn of the 20th Century: Black pianist Coalhouse Walker, Jr. and his beloved Sarah, Jewish immigrant Tateh and his little girl, and a wealthy white family led by matriarch Mother. All grasping for the same dream, if only they can hold onto it.
Featuring a lush score by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, a stirring book by Terrence McNally, and original orchestrations by William David Brohn, all of whom won Tony Awards for their work, Ragtime weaves fictional narratives with real historical figures and events, creating a rich tapestry that blurs the line between personal struggle and national identity, making history feel both intimate and epic.
