"Even though we went on a Saturday night, the lead was not in the show. What I felt like was an extremely darker version of a West Side Story & Grease, both of which I enjoyed many times over. This is quite heavy, with an imporant message, excellent acting and singing and an overall 'tear-jerker' for me. My husband and I are glad we went, but if we respond to a question down the years, and were asked about this show I'd have to offer a caveat that there are no flaws ... but, you need lots of tissues. An inside review of The Outsiders!
"The Outsiders tells the story of the division between socio economic classes, the extremes, the haves and the have nots….
Cherry indicates, although her family can provide for her, nice clothes and a comfortable life, being part of the Soci’s doesn’t qualify her from immunity of other very serious challenges, in her case, alcoholism and other troubles at home.
Other noteworthy takeaways include, a Greaser indicating he wishes someone would holler at him because it would mean someone cares….
There have been many theatrical stories of division, such as West Side Story, but the Outsiders demonstrates the socioeconomic division as opposed to perhaps West Side Story which deals with more ethnic division.
I would recommend The Outsiders, as a reminder, life is challenging, and the grass isn’t always greener…
Of course, parents decide for their children but I would not recommend it for children due to the language, “water boarding”, etc…."

"The outsiders was a fantastic show! The dancing and singing with the effects was outstanding!! The only improvement would be to be to have the volume turned up higher on some of the solo songs, especially the first song sung by Pony boy. Sometimes it was hard to hear the words of the songs. "I may have read "The Outsiders" as a teenager, but if I did I don't remember it, so this story was new to me. While a bit reminiscent of "Westside Story" with two rival teenage groups, the show was unique unto itself. The choreography, staging and performances were all excellent, with some of the best voices and most memorable songs I've heard on Broadway in a long time. "I liked the minimalism of the production, it's use of black and white lighting effects, the way the cast moved around boards and tires to shape and reshape objects of use. Music, song and movement were exciting. Story line however was kind of ordinary, rival groups of teens in a cityscape. Reminiscent of West Side Story."

That said, the performances and music were excellent. If you want traditional Broadway with a super talented ensemble this is really it.
Our Pony Boy was a standout as was the spectacularly orchestrated stage craft.
And while the first act was just a little dragged out, the second half really brought it home. Highly recommend."

"I have seen more than 45 shows on Broadway, each one amazing in it's own way, but this show was absolutely AMAZING! I was 14 when The Outsiders movie released and I didn't know what to expect on stage. The stage is simply set but manages to transform completely for every scene into something new. "Over the past 2 years, I have seen over 20 different Broadway shows. There are some of the old standards to witness no doubt just to say you were there, but if you want a near perfectly casted true Broadway experience with singing, acting, choreography and setting The Outsiders is by far the best show you will see.
