Complete casting has been announced for the world premiere of Love Never Dies, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s eagerly awaited sequel to The Phantom of the Opera. The show will begin previews at London’s Adelphi Theatre on February 20, 2010, and open on March 9, with a Broadway premiere at an as-yet unnamed theater on November 11 and an Australian debut in 2011, directed by Jack O’Brien.
In addition to previously announced stars Ramin Karimloo as the Phantom, Sierra Boggess as Christine, Joseph Millson as Raoul and Liz Robertson as Madame Giry, the premiere cast will include Summer Strallen (The Drowsy Chaperone, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Cats, The Boyfriend) as Meg Giry, Niamh Perry (Mamma Mia!) as Fleck, Adam Pearce (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Evita) as Squelch and Jami Reid-Quarrell (Equus) as Gangle.
Rounding out the cast are Derek Andrews, Dean Chisnall, Helen Dixon, Lucie Downer, Paul Farrell, Charlene Ford, Chris Gage, Lucy van Gasse, Celia Graham, Simon Ray Harvey, Jack Horner, Erin Anna Jameson, Pip Jordan, Jessica Kirton, Louise Madison, Janet Mooney, Colette Morrow, Tam Mutu, Ashley Nottingham, Tom Oakley, Mark Skipper, Jonathan Stewart, Tim Walton and Annette Yeo.
Love Never Dies continues the story of the Phantom, who has moved from his lair in the Paris Opera House to haunt the fairgrounds of Coney Island, far across the Atlantic. Set 10 years after the mysterious disappearance of the Phantom from Paris, the show is described as a rollercoaster ride of obsession and intrigue in which music and memory can play cruel tricks, and the title character sets out to prove that, indeed, “love never dies.”
The show will feature music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, lyrics by Glenn Slater, a book by Ben Elton, choreography by Jerry Mitchell and set and costume design by Bob Crowley.
Based on the French novel by Gaston Leroux, The Phantom of the Opera is the longest running show on Broadway and has been seen worldwide by more than 100 million people.
A cast album of Love Never Dies will be released in March 2010 by Polydor/Universal, coinciding with the London opening.
