Hot time, summer in the city, and Broadway box offices are getting plenty warm. Too bad that two of the hottest shows are leaving town: Red, which played its final performance on June 27, set a record at the Golden Theatre ($723,560) and kept its place in the frontrunners' list for capacity and megahit Fences set yet another record at the Cort ($1,138, 982), prompting fervent prayers that Denzel Washington might extend past July 11 (probably not). A total of eight shows topped $1 million for the week, and newly minted Best Musical Memphis is hovering just below the magic mark with $923,861. In addition to Red, Broadway said farewell to Hair and Sondheim on Sondheim.
