Holiday weekends often give a boost to Broadway’s box offices, but this year’s Independence Day week (which culminated in a Sunday evening fireworks display on Manhattan’s West Side) resulted in drops at almost every show. You can probably guess the major exception: Fences, which broke the Cort Theatre record for the sixth time with $1,164,529. In non-Denzel news, six other shows topped $1 million, but only nine of 26 Broadway offerings attracted more than 90% of capacity. One of those was Next Fall, which ended its run at the Helen Hayes Theatre up almost $70,000 from the previous week and playing to 90.13% of capacity.
