When nine out of 25 Broadway productions ring up $1 million in sales, it can only mean one thing: summer in New York City! More than a third of the shows currently running on the Great White Way reached the magic number last week, including Harry Connick Jr. in Concert on Broadway, which hauled in $1,139,695 for only six performances at the Neil Simon Theatre, just missing the frontrunners’ list for grosses but topping the list for capacity. A million dollars is actually small potatoes for the top two grossers on our list, as Wicked and The Lion King rang up $1.7 and $1.6 in sales for a truly sizzling week.
