Susan isn’t the only Blackwell family member with mad skills. Turns out the [title of show] star and Side by Side by Susan Blackwell host’s brother, John, is a computer whiz, one who’s using his tech savvy to help children and adults with Type 1 diabetes better manage their illness. Here’s the scoop: When John’s son, Tony, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, Dad got to work designing handy online tool TonysPlate.com, which helps parents, patients or both better manage the carbohydrates, insulin and nutrition information that helps keep the disease in check. Now the title of show gang—Susan, Heidi Blickenstaff, Jeff Bowen and Hunter Bell—are working together to get the word about TonysPlate all they way to the White House as part of First Lady Michelle Obama’s Healthy Apps for Kids Competition. We’d go on, but we don’t have to: Blackwell, Blickenstaff, Bowen and Bell put together this pithy video (complete with trademark [tos]ser outtakes) to give you all the details.
