The previously announced London premiere of Broadway’s Tony-winning musical The Book of Mormon will begin performances at the West End’s Prince of Wales Theatre on February 25, 2013. No casting announcements have been made at this time.
The Book of Mormon follows two mismatched missionaries who are sent to Uganda to spread word of their religion. Upon arrival, however, the duo realize their training hardly prepared them for the unsettling realities of African life.
Featuring a score and book by South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone alongside Avenue Q co-creator Robert Lopez, The Book of Mormon opened on Broadway on March 24, 2011. The musical, which is co-directed by Parker and Casey Nicholaw, won nine Tony Awards including Best Musical.
Like the Broadway production, the London premiere will include set design by Scott Pask, costume design by Ann Roth, lighting design by Brian MacDevitt, sound design by Brian Ronan, orchestrations by Larry Hochman and Stephen Oremus and music supervision and vocal arrangements by Oremus.
