The previously announced album of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Pipe Dream, recorded live during the show’s recent revival at New York City Center’s Encores! series, will be released by Ghostlight Records on September 18. The revival of the 1955 Broadway musical starred Laura Osnes as Suzy, Will Chase as Doc, Leslie Uggams as Fauna, Tom Wopat as Mac and Stephen Wallem as Hazel.
Based on John Steinbeck’s novellas Cannery Row and Sweet Thursday, Pipe Dream is the story of the romance between Doc, a marine biologist, and Suzy, a woman who hitchhikes into town. The new recording will feature songs from the revival including “All Kinds of People,” “All at Once You Love Her,” “The Man I Used to Be,” “Everybody’s Got a Home But Me,” “The Next Time It Happens,” “Sweet Thursday,” “A Lopsided Bus,” “The Party That We’re Gonna Have Tomorrow Night,” “Thinkin’” and more.
Marc Bruni served as the show’s director, with Rob Berman working as music director. The cast of Pipe Dream also featured James Clow, Philip Hernández, James Moye, Steve Routman and Stephen Wallem, as well as Matthew Bauman, Jack Doyle, Lora Lee Gayer, James Harkness, Jessica Hershberg, Emily Hsu, Cara Kjellman, Denis Lambert, Analisa Leaming, Jay Lusteck, Linda Mugleston, Shannon M. O’Bryan, Monica L. Patton, Richard Pruitt, Vincent Rodriguez III, Kelly Sheehan, Martín Solá, Charlie Sutton, Nicholas Ward and Victor James Wisehart. The album is produced by Bruce Pomahac, Rob Berman and Ted Chapin, with co-producer Scott Lehrer and executive producer Kurt Deutsch.
