Raunchy Comedy The Banana Monologues Sets Off-Broadway Closing Date

Well, this news is certainly not a-peel-ing. The Banana Monologues, a one-man comedy about a man and his battle with the banana in his pants, will close August 4. The production was originally scheduled to play through August 30. Directed by Debra Whitfield, the solo show opened June 24 at the Acorn Theatre on Theatre Row and will have played 13 previews and 36 regular performances upon closing.

Written by Brennan, Mary Cimino and Jason C. Cooper, The Banana Monologues follows Gus Weiderman (Brennan), who tells stories of his relationship with his out-of-his-league girlfriend. As the layers of their relationship are peeled back, Gus tries to split from his girlfriend—but his “banana,” Sergeant Johnson, stands firm. In The Banana Monologues, Gus must grapple with this all-too-common conflict between lust and love.
