The latest incarnation of iLuminate is set to officially open on January 27, 2014 at New World Stages. Miral Kotb’s off-Broadway spectacle combines music, art, dance and technological magic to create a feast of theatrical thrills for the audience's senses.
iLuminate follows the fantastical journey of Jacob, a talented young artist who struggles to connect with the real world. He takes comfort in his magical paintbrush, which grants him the power to turn the characters of his imagination into living, breathing creatures. When a jealous townsperson steals the paintbrush and turns his endearing creations into horrifying monsters, Jacob must face this danger without the help of his miraculous instrument. He fights to save his town and friends, even as he knows that the paintbrush which brought him so much joy is now a weapon in the hands of a malevolent villain bent on destruction.
In addition to director, choreographer and author Kotb, the creative team includes co-author Athena Sunga, composer and musical director Justin “Kanobby” Keitt, composer Christopher Tignor, choreographer, scenic and costume designer John “JRock” Nelson, choreographer Dario Mejia and choreographer and costume designer Marcus Allan Cobb.
A creative dance team based in Los Angeles, iLuminate first lit up for a national audience on the sixth season of America’s Got Talent, in which they took third place.
