The Fourth of July holiday weekend marked an expected dip in box office numbers this week on Broadway. As many spent the holiday with fireworks and cookouts, box offices took in approximately a combined $25.12 million, down about $4.66 million from the week before. Still, many shows had cause to cheer—especially when those productions are run by a certain mouse. The Lion King and Aladdin both held onto frontrunning positions in the highest grossing shows, with the former breaking two million and surpassing Wicked as the highest grossing show. Usual suspects The Book of Mormon and Kinky Boots made the top five as well. The Lion King and Aladdin also exceeded capacity, and by a narrow margin, tied for a spot in the top five attended shows. As previously announced, Disney's remaining Broadway show, Newsies, will play its final performance this summer. But before that, the Great White Way said goodbye to The Realistic Joneses. The star-studded play had its last performance as scheduled on July 6.
