Music and screen star Aly Michalka and singer-songwriter Spencer Sutherland will make their Broadway debuts in & Juliet this fall. Sutherland will begin performances as Romeo on September 15 at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre, with Michalka joining as Anne Hathaway on November 3. Alison Luff will play her final performance as Anne Hathaway on November 1.
Michalka is an actress, singer-songwriter and one half of the musical duo Aly & AJ. She began her career on the Disney Channel’s Phil of the Future. Her film credits include Easy A, Bandslam, Sequoia and Weepah Way for Now. On television, she starred in The CW’s Hellcats and iZombie and has appeared in The Good Doctor, MacGyver and Two and a Half Men.
“I’m beyond thrilled to be joining the company of & Juliet as Anne Hathaway,” Michalka said in a statement. “I’ve spent so much of my life performing and telling stories through music, film and television, and the opportunity to bring that experience to a Broadway stage while challenging myself in a new way is incredibly exciting. I’m so grateful to be welcomed into this extraordinary company, and I hope you’ll come see us on Broadway this winter!”
Sutherland has gained recognition as a recording artist and live performer, selling out multiple world tours. In 2024, he released his sophomore album, The Drama. He has collaborated with artists including A$AP Rocky and Meghan Trainor while expanding his career into television and film. His screen credits include Afterlife of the Party and Amazon Prime’s I Know What You Did Last Summer.
"Stepping onto the biggest stage as Romeo is more than a dream come true, it’s a moment that I will carry with me for the rest of my life,” said Sutherland in a statement. “A Broadway debut only happens once, and this is very much a ‘pinch me’ moment. In the greatest city in the world!"
