A new Sam Shepard play will premiere at the New School University's theater at 151 Bank Street formerly known as the Westbeth Theater Center. The God of Hell will begin a four-week limited off-Broadway engagement on October 29 with J. Smith-Cameron, Randy Quaid and Tim Roth as its stars, according to The New York Times.
The God of Hell centers on a Midwestern couple Cameron and Quaid whose lives are disrupted by the arrival of an evil government officer Roth that threatens to destroy their farm. Shepard told The Times the play was "a takeoff on Republican fascism, in a way."
Lou Jacob whose off-Broadway credits include The Last Laugh and Vina's Got a Golem will direct The God of Hell. One role is still to be cast.
