People Are Wrong! was previously seen in New York in concert form at Joe's Pub and P.S. 122. The musical follows the adventures of a young New York City couple in the country. When they hire an off-kilter but charismatic landscape artist, who is in reality a cult leader, they end up on a wild ride that encompasses wedding planning, alien visitation, flashbacks to rock festivals and journeys to the sixth dimension. The show, written by Julia Greenberg and Robin Goldwasser, features Todd Almond, Chris Anderson, David Driver, Robin Goldwasser, Erin Hill, Maggie Moore, Connie Petruk, Tricia Scotti and John Flansburgh.
People Are Wrong!, directed by David Herskovits, officially opened on November 4. In his Broadway.com Review of the musical, David Drake wrote: "While indeed supplying the 'fish out of water' story, this co-production of the Vineyard and Target Margin Theater--which boasts the New York stage debut of They Might Be Giants' lead singer/songwriter John Flansburgh--is an uncertain satire without social insight or decent laughs. And it's all the more disappointing considering the fact that the Vineyard was where the satirically sharp yet dearly sweet Avenue Q started. Still, despite People Are Wrong's bafflingly random title, what consistently holds your interest throughout the new musical's 100-intermission-less minutes is its melodically engaging rock score."
