In The American Plan, it is the summer of 1960 and a troubled, 20-year-old German-Jewish girl named Lili Adler is on vacation in the Catskills with her wealthy family when she falls in love with Nick Lockridge. During the course of the summer, Lili's mother uncovers a secret from the young man's past which proves him unfit as a suitor.
The American Plan had its world premiere off-Broadway in 1990 at Manhattan Theatre Club's Stage II. It later moved to MTC's Stage I space.
