Victoria Clark is set to play to Sally Durant in the Encores! City Center production of the Follies running from February 8-11, 2007, according to a production spokesperson.
Follies will be conducted by veteran Broadway musical director and Tony winner Paul Gemignani, and will feature a full orchestra. This is the first full-scale New York presentation of Stephen Sondheim's score for Follies in more than 20 years.
Clark won a 2005 Best Actress Tony Award for her performance as Margaret Johnson in The Light in the Piazza. Her other Broadway credits include Urinetown, Cabaret, Titanic, How to Succeed…, A Grand Night for Singing and Guys and Dolls.
Follies takes place onstage at the once-spectacular, but now crumbling, Weissman Theatre, where on the eve of its demolition, ghosts from its past return and showgirls from decades ago reunite—and remember—one last time. Dorothy Collins played Sally in the original Broadway production of Follies, which opened at the Winter Garden Theatre in April 1971. Judith Ivey played the role in the Roundabout Theater Company's 2001 Broadway revival at the Belasco.
No other casting has been announced for Follies. As previously reported, the 14th season of Encores! will celebrate the great American Broadway revue and honor the 100th anniversary of the Ziegfeld Follies. The season will also include Irving Berlin and Moss Hart's Face the Music and Stairway to Paradise,, celebrating the best material from a half century of Broadway revues.
