Victoria Clark, who won a 2005 Best Actress Tony Award for The Light in the Piazza, will return to the New York stage in December in Nicky Silver's The Agony and the Agony, according to Variety. The playwright himself will co-star with Clark in a production to be directed by Terry Kinney.
In The Agony and the Agony, a once-celebrated playwright Silver, now down on his luck, brings the major people in his life together in a last-ditch effort to connect with the human race—and get a play produced. The Vineyard website describes the play as "a tragicomic farce about life in and out of the theater," and notes that the production, part of the theater's Lab series, will be open to members only. According to Variety, the show will run from December 8-22.
Silver experienced his first burst of popular success with the Vineyard's 1993 production of his apocalyptic comedy Pterodactyls, starring Hope Davis. His other plays include Raised in Captivity, The Food Chain, The Eros Trilogy, Fit to Be Tied, The Altruists and Beautiful Child, which was directed by Kinney in a 2004 production at the Vineyard.
