Project Runway winner Christian Siriano has his next star-studded assignment: dressing Whoopi Goldberg for her hosting duties at the 2008 Tony Awards. The 22-year-old wunderkind designer showed off sample sketches on a Whoopi paper doll during the May 27 broadcast of ABC's The View.
"You're not boring or dull and neither am I," Goldberg declared to Siriano during his on-camera appearance. In turn, he praised Goldberg's sometimes flamboyant fashion choices on awards shows such as the Oscars: "[It's] dramatic and fabulous, and that's me. I love the drama."
Siriano has emerged as a popular media personality since winning season four of Project Runway at 21. He has designed for Victoria "Posh Spice" Beckham, model and Project Runway host Heidi Klum and Extra host Dayna Devon and created rapper Eve's dress for the MTV International Music Awards. Siriano's personal website touts him as a "musical theater kid who loved costumes." He developed an interest in designing while dancing with the Ballet Theater of Maryland in his hometown of Annapolis.
In addition to a guest-starring role on Ugly Betty, Siriano has appeared on Ellen, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Regis and Kelly and Today. He was a red carpet fashion correspondent for the 2008 MTV Movie Awards and Kids Choice Awards, a guest judge for the 2008 Miss USA Pageant and host of the 2008 Logo Awards.
The 2008 Tony Awards will be telecast live from Radio City Music Hall on June 15.
