Broadway Grosses: Tony "Bump" Boosts In the Heights, Gypsy

The Tony Awards have come and gone, and a couple of shows reaped immediate benefits: Best Musical winner In the Heights jumped just shy of $100,000 from the previous week, barely missing the top five for capacity at 99.56%. Tony winner Patti LuPone's TV turn helped boost Gypsy's grosses by more than $120,000 from the previous week. The evening's other big musical winner, South Pacific, was already doing sellout business without the benefit of Tony exposure. Overall, Broadway's box offices were up for the week, with four of the top five shows grossing more than $1 million and Wicked coming close to $1.5 million. Broadway said good-bye to the starry African-American revival of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, which went out strong at more than 100% of capacity.
