Manhattan Theatre Club has extended the off-Broadway production of Lynn Nottage’s Ruined for the seventh time at New York City Center Stage I. The play, which won the 2009 Pulitzer Prize, will now run through August 2, directed by Kate Whoriskey. Ruined is a co-production of MTC and Chicago’s Goodman Theatre.
As of August 2, Ruined will have played 22 previews and 198 regular performances, making it the longest running production at Stage I since the 1992 production of Terrence McNally’s Lips Together, Teeth Apart.
In addition to the Pulitzer, Ruined won the New York Drama Critics Circle Award, Drama Desk Award, Outer Critics Circle Award and two Lucille Lortel Awards, plus OBIE Awards for cast members Quincy Tyler Bernstine and Russell G. Jones and a Theatre World Award for cast member Condola Rashad.
