Did not meet the hype.
"Humorous at times, but not hilarious. I will give credit to the cast. Great voices and the two young performers who were the lead characters were perfect in their roles."

A bit simple
"The singing and dancing were just fine but I thought it was simple and not very clever. I expect more from a Broadway show."

The most inapproriate content I have ever seen
"While is started off funny with the doorbell ringing score it quickly digressed into a pathetic, inappropriate, racist, and pedophile references throughout the show. The score about f... you to a higher being insulted my, an probable other religions, christian beliefs. This show should not have won any tony awards, it was terrible and could not wait to get out of the threatre. "

Just ok- over the top as expected
"The performers were good, but the content was too over the top. Understood going in that it is written by South Park writers, but it was too much with the raunch. Some things were funny, but it was a bit much. So glad there were no children in our audience. "

Too irreverent and vulgar.
"This musical showed a patent disregard for decorum. It was exceedingly vulgar and replete with offensive language. It was discordant in nature. There were a few funny lines, but not enough to offset the disturbing language directed toward God or the overemphasized focus on swearing throughout. "

Middle school humor for adults
"I am not a fan of the TV show South Park, so that should have been a warning sign. The humor to me sounds like it would only be funny to middle schoolers or suburban house wives that want to feel edgy. Some of the performers were pitchy when hitting their notes. Maybe I am just not a fan of musicals though..."

Unnecessarily offensive
"The dance and vocal numbers were technically very good - the actors did their parts well however, there were many parts I felt went way over the line. I have spoken to people who had seen this play several years ago and they do not recall some of the content I described. Having sex with a baby...too much! Had I known all of this I absolutely would not have come. Do not recommend this for anyone of faith or sensitive conscience. "

More respectful of Mormonism than of Africa and Uganda
"I went in knowing what to expect regarding satirizing Mormonism and crudeness; I actually thought the writing re that was smart and funny. I felt the portrayal of the people of Uganda as tools to present that satire was purely offensive. Performances were well acted and sung, a dream sequence was pretty amazing. "

Alarmingly vulgar
"I expected the gay jokes, but some of the jokes were downright vulgar and gross. The music was great, though, and the actors were well casted."

Too offensively portrayed.
"Acting, singing, choreography was very good. Subject matter, raunchy images portrayed were very offensive and could have been much more subtly portrayed. This would have made the message about injustice in Uganda much more powerful, ironically."

Not For Seniors
"Sorrry to say, this was not the type of show we usually see. My Daughter saw it in London and raved about it. Did not like foul language and the way they portrayed the Mormon Church. We are Senior Citizens and like the “happy-go-lucky type of musicals. We left during intermission."

Difficult material at times.
"I thought the actors performance was astounding and they had great vocal range when singing. I don’t think that some of the story material made sense. I’m also not a fan of making fun of or poking fun at real issues pertaining to certain ethnic groups, nor religious groups. With that said I hope those actors perform in other plays that I would greatly support with better theatrical content."

It's a revival meeting morality play with music and dancing
"The tunes are catchy, the show was campy (think Disney World stage production). It's basically a revival meeting (think Gemstones) meets traditional bible themed morality. The theater patrons we encountered applauded enthusiastically, so it clearly has appeal for some audiences. The singing and dancing were very good. My problem lies with the basic story. This show is not for everyone. If you are looking for deep performances, acting, writing, this is not it. The show's superficiality is worn on its sleeve."

Dumb
"I have been excited to see this show for a while. It was just stupid. We left at intermission. It was gay innuendo after gay innuendo. Also- oooooh let’s say bad words because we’re so cool and edgy. It was just dumb. I had high expectations because o laughed my butt off at the South Park episode making fun of Mormons but this was just flat out idiotic in my opinion. "

Big disappointment
"Extremely disappointed in the version of The Book of Mormon we saw last night. We saw this.play originally in Los Angeles many years ago and we remembered enjoying it and laughing a lot. However, the version we saw last night was crude and vulgar at times. The set and costumes were average. "

Buyer Beware: Sacrilegious and Vulgar
"I did not expect this vulgarity and how sacrilegious this musical was. I ended up walking out at intermission because it was so obscene. If I had known it was like this I never would have bought a ticket. Caution before buying. "

We thought the cast was extremely talented but did not enjoy the show.
"We enjoyed the singing and dancing but we were not aware that the show and the words of the songs would be so irreverent. We also found, that, although the theater is old and architecturally beautiful, the seats in the theater were extremely uncomfortable. "

Too course, crude and sac religious
"The actors are good, but try to be funny too hard by being as crude as possible. Unfortunately, even the satire is lost by pushing the limits of what could be a very funny story. Worst of all there is an unacceptable disrespect for God by which anyone with even a slight Christian belief would be offended. "

Probably not
"There were some really funny parts of the show but I have to say that as a Catholic Christian, it was beyond difficult to listen to a couple of the musical numbers that just blatantly disrespected God. If you are a Christian, I wouldn’t recommend this show. God bless!"

About The Book of Mormon

The Book of Mormon follows two young missionaries who are sent to Uganda to try to convert citizens to the Mormon religion. One missionary, Elder Price, is an enthusiastic go-getter with a strong dedication to his faith, while his partner, Elder Cunningham, is a socially awkward but well meaning nerd whose tendency to embroider the truth soon lands him in trouble. Upon their arrival in Africa, Elders Price and Cunningham learn that in a society plagued by AIDS, poverty and violence, a successful mission may not be as easy as they expected.
