Fantastic display of music, dance choreography and history of “salsa” mast.
"The entire performance was on point by depicting the challenges of Cuban music—referred to as “Salsa”—and of the struggles of its early pioneers that are the cornerstone of its success to today. The performance has historical lyrics and music set to masterful contemporary choreography of its rhythms. Throughout the show the audiences is invited to partake in and enjoy the the happenings of the local music—the Buena Vista Social Club—where endemic music was being created by some of the best talent that Cuba had to offer during difficult political times. It reveals the pride that cubans have about their culture; specifically their music which is second to none, including the European classical masters. This is a must see by audiences that want understand “Salsa”, as well as those that dance it everyday. Take this opinion from a “Jibaro”—Puertorican farmer—transplant who grew up in N.Y.C. listening to the music and always being enthralled by it. As a professional working in the museum world I had the privilege of developing similar events for New Yorkers to understand and love the genre lumped into the Salsa rubric. Early Salsa relates the stories and experiences of the Guajiro as well as the Jibaro through sing songs, music and dance."

"The whole show was engaging. the audience was emotionally engaged. The lady next to me sang or hummed almost all the songs and it was wonderful. I was not surprised to see families with young children in the audience - either giving them a visual history lesson or keeping them updated. I also witnessed an emotional breakdown of a patron who must have been overcome with memories. This was my first of many more shows on Broadway."

"The music. The multigenerational musicians embodied the music in a transparent and evocative way that allowed the energy from the ancestors to pulse through with crystalline clarity. Oh, and the voices! Natalie Venetia Belcon. For two short hours, Belcon was the tia, the Oracle, the Divine one, for the entire audience. Diva! Isa Antonetti, Young Omara, is one to watch. Confident and strong. The casting / pairing of Young and Old Omara was excellent -- especially when they were both on stage together. The show struck such an emotional chord, I will see it again. "

A proud Cuban daughter
"My sisters and I loved it all! The music was fantastic. The acting, vocals, musician were superb. Omara both young and old was amazing. It was funny in so many ways. For us it was deep and very real. It hit us right in the heart. It is a two hour history lesson of the love for family, friends, country and Music. For Cubans like us, our parents, aunts, uncles, cousins who lived the times, exiled to the USA and were raised with the stories of the revolution and sacrifices so many Cubans made…this show will most definetly hit home. As for non Cubans, go see it, don’t think twice. Go listen to the story, feel the powerful music. It is worth every Pennie. I can’t wait to take my children to see this show. "

"I can’t get enough of it. Saw it off Broadway and now again. Can’t decide which version was best. Maybe off Broadway since there was room to dance in the aisle. 😉 Plenty of familiar faces on both spectrums. Great show!
