Fantastic and Sentimental entertainment
"Loved every character. Singing, dancing, music. Even though we do not speak Spanish we could feel the passion and understood the story with narration. I’m glad we purchased orchestra seats. Loved it. Also appreciate when the actors come outside and graciously talk with the fans. "

If you’re thinking of going to see Buena Vista Social Club, …GO!
"Whether or not you know aimara Portuondo’s music or not (I know all the Sings by heart, but my husband didn’t recognize any), you will absolutely enjoy the music! The band is outstanding, and the singers –both young and older versions of Omara and her fellow singers– do a wonderful job replicating an amazing, one-of-a-kind voice representing a whole era of Cuban, and Latinamerican, music. Acting was aldo very good. Dance choreography could use more variety. But overall a very positive experience. "

Fantastic display of music, dance choreography and history of “salsa” mast.
"The entire performance was on point by depicting the challenges of Cuban music—referred to as “Salsa”—and of the struggles of its early pioneers that are the cornerstone of its success to today. The performance has historical lyrics and music set to masterful contemporary choreography of its rhythms. Throughout the show the audiences is invited to partake in and enjoy the the happenings of the local music—the Buena Vista Social Club—where endemic music was being created by some of the best talent that Cuba had to offer during difficult political times. It reveals the pride that cubans have about their culture; specifically their music which is second to none, including the European classical masters. This is a must see by audiences that want understand “Salsa”, as well as those that dance it everyday. Take this opinion from a “Jibaro”—Puertorican farmer—transplant who grew up in N.Y.C. listening to the music and always being enthralled by it. As a professional working in the museum world I had the privilege of developing similar events for New Yorkers to understand and love the genre lumped into the Salsa rubric. Early Salsa relates the stories and experiences of the Guajiro as well as the Jibaro through sing songs, music and dance."

brilliantly performed
"The whole show was engaging. the audience was emotionally engaged. The lady next to me sang or hummed almost all the songs and it was wonderful. I was not surprised to see families with young children in the audience - either giving them a visual history lesson or keeping them updated. I also witnessed an emotional breakdown of a patron who must have been overcome with memories. This was my first of many more shows on Broadway."

About Buena Vista Social Club

It’s been years since legendary singer Omara Portuondo last entered a recording studio. Once known as the “Queen of Feeling,” her voice was celebrated throughout Cuba—until she vanished from the spotlight. But when an ambitious young record producer brings her a rare opportunity, the elusive diva must finally reckon with her past.

Hailed as a "jaw-dropping, soul-stirring must see" (The Washington Post), the Tony® and GRAMMY® Award-winning Buena Vista Social Club is a journey through music and memory into the beating heart of Havana. A world-class company brings the story of the iconic album to thrilling life in this tale of big dreams, second chances, and music that needs no translation.
