Wonderful experience but a bit tough if you doin't understand Spanish
"Excellent instrumental music, dancing, acting, story, staging and the singing is clearly professional but not as enjoyable as it could be because I don't understand Spanish but still a wonderful theatre experience."

A great revue and story about Buena Vista Social Club
"The play does an admirable job of presenting the music and story of the Buena Vista Social Club. It specifically highlights the artistry and life of Omara Portuando, the main female singer and Cuban musical legend. The play shows both the 1950’s and 1996 lives and the incredible music they made. Also, the band sounded really great. A good time for anyone who enjoys the albums or Cuban music!"

Too Much English
"Did not feel authentic. They spoke too much English and this is a show that is dedicated more to a Cuban heritage. I am 100% Cuban, and some parts of the show made me emotional, but I felt they spoke way too much English in the show when 99% of the audience spoke Spanish. I also did not see many Spanish speakers working in the venue. I speak English fluently, but I felt very bad for the customers who spoke only Spanish as they were given a hard time by the workers."

great afro-cuban music
"Excellent musical performance. The singing was very strong (all in Spanish) and quite moving. There is an insert in the playbill which explains the songs and their history which I found helpful. The musicians on stage add to the atmosphere and the story. The book is a little weak but I went for the music. A very enjoyable musical."

The Musical For You If Don’t Like Musicals
"The Afro-Cuban beats provided by the very tight band at the center of this story combined with some exciting dancing made my night. Long after the curtain fell I was boopin’ to the Cuban music. The story was the right mix of nostalgia and snappy dialog to move things from musical number to musically number. The audience feed on the band’s energy to create a nightclub/dancehall vib. Usually you can count on me to come out of a musical saying ‘no mas.’ But the BVSC was a night of high energy fun and great music that should not be missed."

Iconic album brought to life
"I am a long-time fan of the BVSC album/project and I was excited to hear the music performed live. The show exceeded my expectations with the integration of storytelling and compelling characters. The musicianship delivers on the flavor, enthusiasm, and virtuosity of Cuban son. The choreography was so dynamic and engaging that I wished I had more eyes to see all the things that were going on with the different dancers. I want to call out special accolades to the vocalists. Both Omara vocalists have chill-inducing voices that absolutely bring the passion and power of Omara Portuondo. The young Ibrahim Ferrer vocalists also has a beautiful voice and range. The integration of the two timelines was an effective story telling technique and the use of staging of the band gives a visual cue as to which timeline is being told. "

Rythm & Story
"The songs are all in Spanish so I’m sure a Spanish speaker would absolutely love it and so it seemed. I enjoyed the authenticity and the story but felt I missed something and wasn’t thrilled overall. "

bad,bad,bad.
"i did not like it. they were not singing, they were screaming. which made vulgar. too much scenery. looks like all the dregs of the storage , were brought out. regarding choreography, Mr. Peck has no idea how a rumba, guaracha .conga, son or cha cha are danced. the arms movements were ridiculos and out of place and finally saddle shoes in Cuba were only worn by girls in expensive private schools. Sorry but I didn’t like it
"Lots of talking and very little showmanship…at times it was sleepy. They should add more dancing; it was very poor, I'm sorry but I didn't like it."

Not my cup of tea
"Every songs in Spanish. The Playbill translation of the general meaning of each song is helpful, but in the dark you can’t read it… and can’t remember which song was about which topic. Dancing and voices were good but not much plot. "

2x's A Charm
"I saw the show twice. The first time I loved it. The second time I took my best friend to see it because she is Cuban. And she loved it also. She said she remembers her Mom playing the music when she was a child. Plus I like that fact that this play was based on an a person that is still alive."
