Outstanding
"One of the absolute best shows I have seen. The music, the story, the acting and dancing had me in tears! It was so beautiful to watch and as someone who grew up listening to Salsa, the nostalgia came running back to my heart. Everyone must see this special performance. Kudos to everyone on stage. "

Fun, thrilling and moving
"Even if you have never heard of Buena Vista Club's music, the compositions, dance numbers and featured musicians will delight audiences of all ages. The history of Buena Vista is intriguing enough to hold the audience's attention. Brief, momentary lulls dot the experience, but do not take away from the overall, enjoyable experience."

knowledge of Spanish and modern Cuban history would help you to enjoy.
"I didn't realize the singing was in Spanish and the dialogue was in English. Of course, the music was universal. However, I did enjoy the play, but to thoroughly enjoy it, you should know Spanish and have some knowledge of Cuban music history."

Electric, soul stirring, warm
"I love the rhythms, the singing and instrumental talents, the warm story of love and sisterhood. I wanted more solos by the main character. I felt only teased by her ability to deliver a song emotionally. "

Why I enjoyed Buena Vista Social Club
"While the theme was serious, I was still able to enjoy the production and not get too immersed in the conflicted experiences of the revolution. At the same time, the factors that gave rise to some leaving and others choosing to stay were adequately dealt with and appreciated. The music was outstanding. There was a lot that was new to me and that was refreshing. The production brought together some exceptionally talented musicians and dancers who made the experience rewarding for the audience. Finally, I think the team of scriptwriter, producer, director should be commended for getting the balance right."

Wonderful experience but a bit tough if you doin't understand Spanish
"Excellent instrumental music, dancing, acting, story, staging and the singing is clearly professional but not as enjoyable as it could be because I don't understand Spanish but still a wonderful theatre experience."

A great revue and story about Buena Vista Social Club
"The play does an admirable job of presenting the music and story of the Buena Vista Social Club. It specifically highlights the artistry and life of Omara Portuando, the main female singer and Cuban musical legend. The play shows both the 1950’s and 1996 lives and the incredible music they made. Also, the band sounded really great. A good time for anyone who enjoys the albums or Cuban music!"

Too Much English
"Did not feel authentic. They spoke too much English and this is a show that is dedicated more to a Cuban heritage. I am 100% Cuban, and some parts of the show made me emotional, but I felt they spoke way too much English in the show when 99% of the audience spoke Spanish. I also did not see many Spanish speakers working in the venue. I speak English fluently, but I felt very bad for the customers who spoke only Spanish as they were given a hard time by the workers."

great afro-cuban music
"Excellent musical performance. The singing was very strong (all in Spanish) and quite moving. There is an insert in the playbill which explains the songs and their history which I found helpful. The musicians on stage add to the atmosphere and the story. The book is a little weak but I went for the music. A very enjoyable musical."

The Musical For You If Don’t Like Musicals
"The Afro-Cuban beats provided by the very tight band at the center of this story combined with some exciting dancing made my night. Long after the curtain fell I was boopin’ to the Cuban music. The story was the right mix of nostalgia and snappy dialog to move things from musical number to musically number. The audience feed on the band’s energy to create a nightclub/dancehall vib. Usually you can count on me to come out of a musical saying ‘no mas.’ But the BVSC was a night of high energy fun and great music that should not be missed."

Iconic album brought to life
"I am a long-time fan of the BVSC album/project and I was excited to hear the music performed live. The show exceeded my expectations with the integration of storytelling and compelling characters. The musicianship delivers on the flavor, enthusiasm, and virtuosity of Cuban son. The choreography was so dynamic and engaging that I wished I had more eyes to see all the things that were going on with the different dancers. I want to call out special accolades to the vocalists. Both Omara vocalists have chill-inducing voices that absolutely bring the passion and power of Omara Portuondo. The young Ibrahim Ferrer vocalists also has a beautiful voice and range. The integration of the two timelines was an effective story telling technique and the use of staging of the band gives a visual cue as to which timeline is being told. "

An unforgettable Broadway experience
"I brought my 80-year-old father on his first trip to NYC to see Buena Vista Social Club. Before ther show even started, we noticed that the ushers and other staff were friendly and attentive. At one point before the show, an usher brought me a seat cushion because she noticed that, as a short person, it was challenging for me to see the stage, even from the third row. The show itself was fantastic. The energy level was amazing and it looked like the actors and musicians were truly having a great time. We attended a "dance-along" performance and were surprised to see Rachel Zegler at the start of the performance make a few announcements. I had mixed feelings about the audience getting up and dancing during the show. It was a bit distracting from the actual performers, as many of the audience members seemed to take this as an opportunity to show off and "perform" for other audience members rather than simply moving to the music. But admittedly, the incredible music is tough to resist! The plot is a bit thin, but the star of the show is really the music, and clearly the musicians, actors, and dancers were at peak performance level. If you love Latin music, this is a must-see."

About Buena Vista Social Club

It’s been years since legendary singer Omara Portuondo last entered a recording studio. Once known as the “Queen of Feeling,” her voice was celebrated throughout Cuba—until she vanished from the spotlight. But when an ambitious young record producer brings her a rare opportunity, the elusive diva must finally reckon with her past.

Hailed as a "jaw-dropping, soul-stirring must see" (The Washington Post), the Tony® and GRAMMY® Award-winning Buena Vista Social Club is a journey through music and memory into the beating heart of Havana. A world-class company brings the story of the iconic album to thrilling life in this tale of big dreams, second chances, and music that needs no translation.
