A Respectful Blend of Weber's Original Cats Score with Modern Day Artistry
"I remember my mother turning me on to Cats in the 80's and I was a little worried this new production would err on updating too much too quickly, but I was happily brought back to the show I loved from yesteryear because it paid the right amount of homage to the original show upfront, reprising a lot of the opening scenes precisely which pulled me back into what I had loved, and then tastefully added more soul and contemporary style and intrigue. I didn't know whether this was to be a completely new chapter or a new take on the original story, and I happily found it to be BOTH by the producers adding nuance, flavor, and focus that made this revival excellent. They don't sacrifice any of the specialty cat personalities but instead, expand and enhance them. Another thing to consider is that current stagecraft options have grown and they have been applied to meet with todays' audience and producer expectations. Past themes and stories are paid the proper respect but at the same time, they are updated and modernized to a GREAT new level. And the technology growth for world-class lighting and sound has been applied so that the big parts of the show are even bigger, yet the delicate parts we love were not sacrificed. Yes, there are some changes that staunch devotees may have trouble with, but I found this update to ambitiously nail the mark of updating the original show without losing existing fans and those that are seeing it for the first time. If you are one of those people (like me) that is wary of the danger of ruining something you loved by someone materially changing it, my advice would be to suspend your fear and buy a ticket! It's worth trusting that the revival production will appeal to enough of your musical memories (see what I did there?) to keep you a believer that, even 40 years later, this show is still worthy of being one of Broadway's favorites."

Opulence on Broadway : Ballroom Takes Center Stage
"Serving as a guest judge for this moment was an absolute honor. What unfolded on that stage wasn’t just performance. It was ballroom, fully realized, fully respected, and fully in its power.
You could feel it from the start. This wasn’t something being translated for a mainstream audience. This was house & ballroom on its own terms. Rooted. Intentional. Alive. Every step, every dip, every face told a story of lineage, discipline, and survival. I laughed, I cried, and I sat there filled with pride for a culture that has shaped the world while rarely being given its due.
House & Ballroom has influenced everything to fashion, music, language, performance. The world has borrowed from it endlessly. But this moment? This was recognition. This was ownership. This was legacy taking center stage.
When the Icons stepped out, Icon Chasity Moore, Icon Leiomy Maldonaldo, Pioneer Icon Junior LaBeija, it shifted the room. These are not just performers; they are architects of culture. Watching them command that stage felt sacred. Earned. Undeniable.
What made it even more powerful is that nothing felt watered down. The integrity of ballroom remained intact. The audience wasn’t being catered to. They were being invited in. And that distinction matters.
Ballroom is storytelling. It is identity. It is resistance and joy existing at the same time. It is chosen family, brilliance, and survival in motion. And that joy was everywhere, bold, unapologetic, and free.
Let’s be clear this is not a DRAG BALL. This is Ballroom. Ballroom is its own culture, with its own history and structure. The presence of femqueens on that stage is intentional, essential, and rooted in a legacy that is built by Transwomen.
This moment was bigger than a show. It was a reminder. Of who we are. Of what we’ve built. Of what cannot be erased.
This is opulence. This is legacy. This is ballroom."

Nothing Short of A Miracle
"i felt like i was part of a phantasmagorical happening. It made what was always an otherwise conventional musical expericence for me(although brilliantly staged back in the day) into a life changing tour de force. The spectacular dancing, hilarious and fabulous costumes and the 'behnd the curtain' experince of LGTBQ artists of color revealing there truth and soul brought me to tears and shouts of joy and communion. Thank you Lloyd-Webber for giving permission to these artists to re-interpret your work. it infused your music and TS Eliot's words with new meaning for a new era, during a time where forces of repression and shame would rather have us crawl back into the closet. Thank you for showing us the power of your talent and courage to be the inspiration you are to the many of us who witnessed and cheered your artistry!"

A rollicking good time
"I loved the original Cats, but even if you hated it, this re-imagined Cats the Jellicle Ball is a must see. The original “story”, characters and music are still there, if in often significantly modified form. But if you enjoy joyful music, fantastic costumes, and amazingly athletic dancing/movement, this show is for you.
For small children it is probably not as magical as the original and some of the costumes and choreography are a bit risqué.
All the performers are first-rate, but a special shoutout is due to Rum Tum Tugger. He is one amazing dude and as one critic said, he stole the show. "

A perfect marriage of art forms
"The integration of Cats and the Ball culture is nothing short of brilliant. As you experience it, you wonder what took so long and yet it is filled with surprises of every kind. The creators understood how to meld the iconoclastic with restrained wit. It creates a perfect framework that draws you in and doesn't leave you alone even after the final notes are played. The original Cats has been a polarizing show since it opened in London in the late 70s. People love it! And people love to hate it. This production swings to those who just love it. It is fun beyond belief. The choreography is inspired, an amalgamation of real Ball and real dance. [They are not the same.] The cast is miraculous. The look and feel sends you over the rainbow. The musical arrangements are mind blowing. If you look for flaws, you will find a few, but then again too few to mention. GO! If you don't find a new piece of yourself, you haven't looked hard enough. Bravi to all concerned."

About
Cats: The Jellicle Ball
Come one, come all – The Jellicle Cats are having a BALL. Based on T.S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, Andrew Lloyd Webber's worldwide phenomenon CATS is reimagined in a production that smashed records, won awards and left New York City purring. And now CATS: The Jellicle Ball ascends to Broadway in a kaleidoscope of glittering spectacle, iconic music and electrifying ballroom choreography that The New York Times calls “a lightning strike that sets joy free!
Broadway meets Runway in the fiercest event of the season, directed by Obie Award winners Zhailon Levingston and Bill Rauch, with choreography by Obie Award winners and New York City Ballroom legends Omari Wiles (House of Ricci) and Arturo Lyons (House of Miyake-Mugler). Don’t miss this “sexy celebration of love and resilience” (New York Daily News) and “the most exhilarating fun that can be had in the theater” (The Washington Post).
