The best time I ever had on Broadway

"The play, as well as the performances, were very powerful. I never imagined that I could sit in a darkened theater for three hours and remain as riveted as I was. Being familiar with the playwright and stars as I was, I came in with high expectations. My expectations were exceeded. I would recommend this play to anybody I can think of. Broadway musicals are always fun but for me, this production is what Broadway is all about. It was the best time I ever had at the theater. "

Death of a Salesman

"In my opinion, this is one of Nathan Lane's most emotional performances. He is a true showman and one of Broadway's greatest actors. The stage and wardrobe are simple (the car is beautiful) but the acting and family dynamics/interactions are superb (and worthy of Tony Awards for Nathan and Laurie Metcalf). I highly recommend seeing this play!"

Stunning, captivating, brilliant ...

"I was a high school English teacher in a previous life. "Death of a Salesman" was one of the works we studied. Like most, I have previously seen the play on stage and in the movies. I know this play! The current production at the Winter Garden Theatre celebrates the brilliance and complexities of Arthur Miller in ways not previously displayed. The acting is superb; the modest set dignifies the script and its characters; the entire performance is stunning. Prepare to be moved in ways that may trouble you, but that's the point, isn't it? This is real, and we can all identify with at least one character. I was reminded why I love a play. I also believe Arthur Miller would approve. "

Gripping performance

"I found the current production to be a gripping performance of the work. Nathan Lane is a theatrical treasure - his gestures and vocal intonation are unceasingly intense and create a wonderfully gripping evening of theater. He makes the rest of the cast rise to that same level of intensity. I particularly welcomed the casting of the neighbor Charley and his son Bernard as African Americans which heightenened the disparity between Willy's dreams and the reality that he's surrounded with. A wonderful night of theater, the best of the season."

"My wife knew nothing about the Arthur Miller play which he wrote more than 75 years ago. She is the kind of theatergoer who prefers to know as little as possible before the performance. All I told her was two words: “dramatic” and “sad”. The cast was excellent delivering on both of these, emotional as Arthur Miller had probably ever intended. Each of the 4 accomplished lead actors nailed it !!! Simple set design and costumes. Powerful performances to say the least. "

"Have seen lots of shows in NYC but this is by far the best performance to date. Laurie Metcalf stole the show in my opinion, however Nathan Lane was right up there making the whole show come together. I would also like to say congrats to Christopher Abbott who did an outstanding job as Biff, especially in the near ending scene, pleading with his Dad. There actually were people crying in the audience. Hope this play is well recognized at the Tony’s. "

Excellent staging and acting

"I was initially dubious about seeing this production as Death of a Salesman is one of my favorite plays and I couldn't imagine it remotely standing up to Brian Dennehy's production (and I saw Philip Seymour Hoffman's and frankly thought he was too young for the role). But after the reviews, I decided to see it yesterday and am so glad I did. Incredible acting--Lane, Metcalf and Abbott were amazing, but there was not a miss in the entire cast. And I loved the staging, having first wondered if it was too much of a departure. I cannot more highly recommend seeing it. The three hours from start to finish flew by."
