""Death of a Salesman" is American Shakespeare; a sundry group of actors have essayed Willie Loman, and the greatest stage actor in America, Nathan Lane, captures his weariness and surprisingly moving ebullience. Having seen several actresses as Linda, all fabulous, I would surmise that Laurie Metcalf's performance is the greatest of all. Chris Abbott and Ben Ahlers are superb. In order for the play to work, the family needs to be believable and affecting.
The real star for me is Joe Mantello, due to his brilliant staging and vision of the play, a true theatrical visionary. Moreover, he maintained the pace, a skill often lacking in other directors.
Willie should have been a carpenter. Like many of us, he views the pursuit of wealth as the only goal, and he dismisses his true skills and destroys his life. In this unforgettable production, we see the embers of the American dream from the start, but we willingly go on the ride and in the end, we see ourselves."

"I have loved Arthur Miller's play, "Death of a Salesman" since I first read it over 30 years. The production now on Broadway with Nathan Lane as Willy Loman and Laurie Metcalf as his wife, Linda and their sons, Biff and Happy is just brilliant. The entire cast understands the play beautifully and every actor in the production plays his role to perfection, speaking clearly and moving smoothly and pausing when the action suggests. Arthur Miller would be so proud of this wonderful production, directed by the gifted Joe Mantello.
