"Audra McDonald is in fact A LIVING LEGEND and Joy Woods is a perfect counterpart. I was at the edge of my seat and everyone on this production deserves their flowers. I am 1000% lucky to be in the final audience. I wish it had a longer stay on Broadway because I could see this being a big contender against other Broadway shows that have a permanent stay. A Once in Lifetime Moment
"It's been a week and I still tear up thinking of the blessing I received from my husband and children who flew me to NY with tickets to see Audra McDonald as Mama Rose in Gypsy as a 50th birthday present! The synergy of the entire cast only made the atmosphere of the Majestic Theater feel more magical as I beheld this historic rendering of a familiar tale. The vocal performances of all were stellar and the storytelling immersed me into the world of a family who looked like my own, struggling to find significance in a world where they were meant to be invisible. The music glistened on the surface, and humor lightened the load as these brilliant thespians unpacked very real humanity before us. "I am not a theater critic—just someone who loves a good story and a powerful performance. And let me tell you, Gypsy on Broadway was nothing short of spectacular.
The Audra McDonald as Mama Rose was a force of nature. Her rendition of “Everything’s Coming Up Roses” was so powerful, it gave me goosebumps. I also really loved “Some People,” “Small World,” but what really nailed it was “Rose’s Turn” this was smashing, off the chart, awesome. The emotion felt raw and real.
You could feel her desperation, her ambition, and her love all tangled up in one unforgettable performance. And the transformation of Louise (Joy Woods) into Gypsy Rose Lee? Absolutely mesmerizing. It was like watching someone step into their own light for the first time.
The set design and costumes were also stunning—vibrant, detailed, and perfectly evocative of the era. Every scene felt alive, clearly defined and understood. The story was well written and directed, The transitions between scenes were seamless.

Best Performance of the Decade
"Audra McDonald is a gift to this world. Thank you, God, for giving the world her talent. I've seen Gypsy before, I don't even remember who the lead actress was at the time. Although I recognized the musical numbers, what Ms. McDonald did with the numbers that she performed was absolute perfection. Her final number, had me BAWLING!!!! How she exudes that amount of energy six times a week for months on end is absolute mastery of her instrument and discipline. There were no seats available, ten minutes into the performance. I had the pleasure of seeing her in "Ragtime" 20+ years ago, however last night's performance was a MASTER CLASS. Run, don't walk to purchase your ticket, treat yourself, only 15 days left. The casting was excellent, the special mention, Ms. Joy Woods, well done, ma'am you are on your way. Kudos Audra, thank you for a once in a lifetime experience!"

"Including the movies, I've seen seven productions of Gypsy and this is the best directed production I've ever seen. I really appreciated the choices that George C. Wolfe made in this interpretation, and the performances were excellent. A line was missed here and there, but overall, it was magnificent, especially Audra McDonald, who found the passion in the role of Rose. Danny Burstein was a superb counterpoint and Joy Woods was a fantastic Gypsy. I think they should take this production on tour! I came to New York specifically to see this production. Gypsy
Gypsy is the landmark Broadway musical about a domineering mother in the early 20th Century who will do anything to make her young daughters Vaudeville stars. Inspired by the early life of stripper Gypsy Rose Lee, this new production is directed by George C. Wolfe and choreographed by Camille A. Brown, and is the musical that introduced the hit songs “Everything’s Coming Up Roses,” “Let Me Entertain You,“ and “You Gotta Get a Gimmick.”
