Pure magic
""Gypsy" is almost always strong, but Audra McDonald's performance raised it to a new level. I once thought Angela Lansbury's "Gypsy" could never be topped . . . but Audra's was -- well, it was a privilege to be in that theater."

Best I’ve seen in a long time!
"We see a lot of Broadway shows even tho we don’t live in NY and this is one of our top five. The performances, the staging and costumes were all terrific. Little Baby June could have stolen the show ahead of was so good, but it’s hard to top Audra!"

Another Tony for Audra, Please
"I have never witnessed such star power before. Audra McDonald absolutely crushes in what will be a legendary performance. Her singing is always immaculate, but her acting brought new levels of pathos to the agonizing downward spiral of Rose and her brood. The production was eye-catching without being distracting and all of the supporting players held their own. But this is Audra's show. See her while you can!"

Classic broadway musical
"It allows today’s audience to experience a great classic broadway production. A fine orchestra playing great musical theatre songs, excellent singing and dancing, a believable story, the whole thing just grabs you and lets you enjoy yourself. And with the plus of an enthusiastic audience justifiably in love with the star, Audra McDonald."

Audra's terrific inn Gypsy!
"A highly entertaining musical for folks of all ages, including children. During the performance, my wife leaned over and whispered we have to bring our 9-year old granddaughter (an actor who dances and sing ) to see the show. As usual, Audra was phenomenal and makes the show."

Great Take on A Classic
"This was a great take on a classic adding a racial overlay as Baby June moved from the Black theater circuit to the vaudeville circuit. Audra McDonald was incredible—the emotion and power of her voice in Rose’s Turn is truly remarkable. Joy Woods shines as Louise—beautiful voice and a very convincing transformation."

A joyous celebration of artistry. Loved the music and dancing.
"Terrific singing and dancing. The understudy was amazing and was outstanding in showcasing the character of the mother Rose. The costumes and staging were effective. Enjoyed the burlesque dancers and the story line from vaudeville to burlesque. Knew very little about the character of Gypsy Rose so this provided new learning and opportunity to explore more about the mother daughter relationships and the role of women then and now."

Great cast starring Audra McDonald and thoroughly entertaining
"The show was great from start to finish. I will say I had seats in the orchestra section but was surprised that I had to walk up two flights of stairs to get to my seat, which I didn’t expect being in the orchestra section. "

So much talent on one stage!
"I was very impressed that as long as this play has been around the production was fresh and all the actors were terrific! We attended a Saturday matinee and the understudy for Audra Mc Donald played the lead. She was terrific and gave it her all along with the rest of the cast! My only complaint would be that the seats are too small for a person over 6 ft! There is nothing anyone can do about that but that’s the only complaint I had! The theater is beautiful!"

Broadway at its very best! 10 Stars
"We love, love, LOVED Gypsy. Audra swept you into the play and 2.5 hours flew by. That voice!!! Amazing and engaging! Left the theater in awe of how perfect it was. I would not change anything. Actors, sets, choreography, music and pace were perfect for our time. Still singing the songs and living the play. Simply wonderful. "

About Gypsy

Gypsy is the landmark Broadway musical about a domineering mother in the early 20th Century who will do anything to make her young daughters Vaudeville stars. Inspired by the early life of stripper Gypsy Rose Lee, this new production is directed by George C. Wolfe and choreographed by Camille A. Brown, and is the musical that introduced the hit songs “Everything’s Coming Up Roses,” “Let Me Entertain You,“ and “You Gotta Get a Gimmick.”
