A classic is given new, vibrant life
"I have known Gypsy as a beloved show for decades, but this production breathes new life into a classic Broadway masterwork - maybe THE classic of all time. Audra stands tall in her unique interpretation of the complex Rose, acting and singing every possible nuance, leading us powerfully to the inevitable, heartbreaking conclusion. Danny Burstein is a terrific, sincere Herbie, Joy Wood is a wonderful, sensitive Louise, and they contrast so eell angaint ghe force that is Mama Rose. The direction is superb with the set, costumes, choreography, and full orchestra providing the perfect picture frame for this tragic but beautiful family portrait."

Audra IS the Show
"Her performance was quite credible and most empathetic. The production was balanced and many nuances were found to make this production a most enjoyable one. It is soooo good to here this score; I have always considered Gypsy to be one of the best musicals written."

Broadway Proper
"Audra is beyond amazing. The entire cast are also truly stellar. Each and every one. They all made this version of Gypsy their own. It was also wonderful to finally see a theatre production use the full depth and width of the stage again instead of relying on tired projections and minimal use of a huge blank canvas of a stage. It felt like good ol' Broadway once again. Wonderful sets, lighting, staging, scene changes and costumes. This is a must-see."

Audra was fantastic! Such energy! Such true emotion!
"I loved the show. Audra really brought her tough and loving feelings to life.
Amazing energy and emotion! The entire cast was fabulous and so talented!
My only wish was that right at the end, Audra would have hugged her daughter, Gypsy, very tight with love. Her daughter HAD become a star and I would have loved to see her mom hugging her with deep emotion."

Show OK But Too Long
"Audra McDonald was fabulous, as was the singing and dancing from other performers, but the storyline got tedious. I had never seen "Gypsy" before, so I'm unsure if this performance was consistent with others over the years. It was unable to capture my interest over the entire 150+ minutes"

First half alienating, builds to a brilliant finish
"I thought all the performances in the first half were incredibly pushed , over wrought and full of shouting. Very off putting.i could have left at interval. Except the daughter Loise was very engaging
Second half much more modulated and settled. Audra as Gypsy builds to the most emotionally powerful , ferocious and moving performance at the end. It was Greek tragedy , Medea, king Lear , all rolled into one. An exceptional performance. The woman who played her daughter Louise was quite superb too"

Don’t miss the opportunity to see a Broadway legend in a classic!
"Gypsy is a classic Broadway musical, where leading ladies come to shine, and Audra is a living legend, so it made sense to — finally! — put them together. Add the reliable Danny Burstein and mix in some talented young actors, and you’re cooking.
That said, I wasn’t totally enamored with Audra’s interpretation of two of the greatest showstoppers ever composed for Broadway, Some People and Rose’s Turn. They need to be ATTACKED, in the fashion of LuPone, Minnelli, and Midler, and that’s not how she chose to sing them. While she may have done a couple of interesting things with the latter song, I was extremely disappointed. And as a musician, I found the orchestra a bit lackluster.
However, despite my exacting taste, I would still highly recommend it, especially if you love Audra!

The young actors were amazing
"While Audra McDonald’s voice was incredible the show didn’t grab me like I thought it would. The young actors who played Gypsy and her sister were fantastic. All of the young cast did a great job. The actor who played Gypsy as an adult looked stunning wearing those gorgeous gowns at the end. Music was enjoyable with a few songs I knew. Our seating was tiered so I had no problem with tall people blocking my view."

Excellent Performance
"My husband and I enjoyed "Gypsy" very much. It had just the right balance of acting, singing, and dancing. However, we did not appreciate the use of the phrase "Goddamn." It was simply not appropriate for the audience. "Damn" is acceptable. Lastly, I want to mention that the orchestra was fantastic! Thank you everyone! 👏🏻👏🏻"

What's not to love about Audra?
"Audra McDonald is a true diva and never has there been a more compelling platform for her talents than this stunning revival of Gypsy. The book is solid (could have been a little tighter) and the full orchestra was resplendent. This was a compelling revival and Audra McDonald gives balance to Rose's unwavering ambition.
It's hard to play with a star like Audra, but Joy Woods as Louise showed true star quality herself. Equally, Kevin Callao as Tulsa danced his way into resounding applause."

About
Gypsy
Gypsy is the landmark Broadway musical about a domineering mother in the early 20th Century who will do anything to make her young daughters Vaudeville stars. Inspired by the early life of stripper Gypsy Rose Lee, this new production is directed by George C. Wolfe and choreographed by Camille A. Brown, and is the musical that introduced the hit songs “Everything’s Coming Up Roses,” “Let Me Entertain You,“ and “You Gotta Get a Gimmick.”
