Kinky Boots is the winner of every major Best Musical award, including the Tony, the Grammy and London’s Olivier Award. Based on true events, this huge-hearted hit tells the story of two people with nothing in common—or so they think! Charlie is a factory owner struggling to save his family business. Lola is a fabulous entertainer with a wildly exciting idea. With a little compassion and a lot of understanding, this unexpected pair learns to embrace their differences and creates a line of sturdy stilettos unlike any the world has ever seen! But in the end, their most sensational achievement is their friendship.

Featuring 16 original songs by Cyndi Lauper, a book by Harvey Fierstein, and direction and choreography by Jerry Mitchell, this joyous sensation “struts its stuff with sparkle, stilettos and heart!” (Sydney Morning Herald). There’s never been a better time to experience Kinky Boots, Broadway’s “dazzling, sassy and uplifting” (Time Out) smash!

Critics’ Reviews

Sometimes audiences just wanna have fun. And you'd be a heel not to have fun at 'Kinky Boots'. One cause for celebration is the infectious Top 40-ish score by '80s pop star Cyndi Lauper. Another is Billy Porter, who portrays drag queen Lola with enough sequined swagger to make RuPaul look like a wallflower. Thanks to Porter's star-making turn, 'Kinky Boots' delivers some pumps-up kicks.

Review by Thom Geier from Entertainment Weekly

What we have, in 'Kinky Boots', is a well-fitted, well-staged toe-tapper in the contemporary big-Broadway idiom. It’s never boring; it’s never shocking; you are likely to leave entirely entertained and satisfied. Can’t argue with that.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Is Kinky Boots Like?
Winner of six 2013 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Kinky Boots features the first-ever Broadway score by Grammy winner Cyndi Lauper (who became the first female solo songwriter to win a Tony) and a hilarious yet moving book by four-time Tony winner Harvey Fierstein. The new musical packs a punch and provides everything audiences look for in a night at the theater: catchy songs, top-notch performances, colorful costumes, big sets, dazzling dance sequences and even a few scenes that could make you cry. Despite numbers set at a drag club, Kinky Boots is much more than a drag queen musical; it touches on the universal themes of father/son relationships and accepting others for who they really are. Directed and choreographed by Tony winner Jerry Mitchell, Kinky Boots is the epitome of a feel-good musical that inspires audiences to dance in the aisles.

Is Kinky Boots Good for Kids?
Kinky Boots provides a fabulous night out for adults and kids 10 and up. There is some talk about sex (“Sex Is in the Heel”), bullying and other adult themes but nothing too intense.
