"If the star rating could be given just for the opening number, I would give it 5 stars. I loved the opening number. That was worth the price of admission. Unfortunately if I have to rate the whole show then my number of stars drops. The set was great, the leads were talented and had great voices. But the show didn't live up to its potential or the hype. I don't like the gimmick of using pop tunes rather than original music. Makes me feel the writers got lazy. But the audience at my performance seemed to love the show, so there's that...."

Ok show
"Liked the colorful attire. What we didnt like is integrating modern pop music into the choreography. We didnt fancy the seats they were uncomfortable, squished and not enough leg room. The side view is almost zero to any particular seating on the extreme sides especially on mezzanine level. The story line was ok. "

Just an ok show
"Saw Moulin Rouge last night and overall it was ok. While the set, costumes, and music were all awesome, the storyline was a bit boring and dragged on too long for my friends and I. All of us were bored by the second act. Wasn’t a terrible way to spend our evening but I definitely wouldn’t do it again and would recommend people go see another play instead. "

All Hype, No Hit
"I left the theater feeling very disappointed. The medley of songs was one of the biggest letdowns — they switched so quickly from one to another that it felt rushed and messy rather than exciting. The costumes came across as cheesy, which didn’t help elevate the production. On top of that, the show leaned too heavily into sexual themes, which felt unnecessary and out of place. The one highlight was the set, which was genuinely well-designed and visually appealing. As for the story and the acting, they were fine — nothing groundbreaking, but not terrible either. Overall, it was a show that had potential, but for me, it simply didn’t deliver."

Fans of the movie: do not watch
"I’m only giving as high as 2 stars because of the outstanding scenery and the strong cast performances. It is criminal what they did to Moulin Rouge. All life and emotion were sucked out of the characters and plot. I expected some changes but could not have imagined what they would do to this beloved story. I’ll avoid giving spoilers, but if you sincerely loved the movie, I strongly recommend looking up the changes to plot and to the music before deciding to see this show. I wanted to be surprised, but I only ended up disappointed, and I don’t think I would have seen the show if I had known. I cried at the end - not for the tragedy experienced by the characters but out of disappointment and frustration."

Professional actors doing karaoke
"Although the show had potential, we did not feel it met the expectations of a professional broadway show. We don’t get to go to broadway shows often, so when we spend that amount of money we expect the acting, singing and choreography to be up to standard of others we’ve seen. This production of moulin rouge did not meet this expectations in the slightest. The acting was forced and the reimagining of modern pop songs incorporated into the show felt forced. It was as if we paid 100$ to see professional singers and actors sing trite karaoke songs. The backup dancers often missed steps and generally did not have the energy needed for moulin rouge. Honestly, skip this production and spend your money elsewhere in New York City. "

Talented cast but poor scenario in over-modernised play
"The actors, the costumes and the set were great! But this is not the original Moulin Rouge story. It includes a too many modern songs from singers like Lady Gaga and Beyoncé so it loses its magic and romantic spirit. It’s a bit campy. It was still enjoyable but not for kids."

Not entertaining
"Some of the singing was great, while much of it was not. It was definitely not what I expected."
